Ikigai Kan(生きがい感)

While the popular four-circle Venn diagram (Passion, Mission, Vocation, Profession) is actually a 2014 Western adaptation, the psychological foundation of Ikigai was established by Mieko Kamiya (1914–1979).

.

She was a brilliant Japanese psychiatrist, linguist, and mother who treated patients with leprosy. Her 1966 book, Ikigai-ni-Tsuite (“On the Meaning of Life”), remains the definitive academic text on the subject.

.

She balanced her own medical career and academic writing while raising two children and caring for her family. She famously wrote in her diary about the struggle to find “intellectual concentration” amidst the demands of real life—a struggle many psychology students can relate to!

Her work suggests that Ikigai isn’t about one “perfect” job, but about balancing these seven needs. This fits my “no-focus” blog approach perfectly; I am exploring different branches of psychology to satisfy my own need for Change, Growth, Meaning, and Value.

.

Hence, created this blog as I continue my studies in Psychology.

.

I am a mother of two, one of whom has ASD Level One, while the other is suspected of having ADHD. It has not been an easy journey, but I hope pursuing studies in Psychology will help us.

Thank you for taking time to read this.
